Yes, And...
Our approach is based on the fundamental improv premise of "Yes, And...," a.k.a. agreement and heightening. We look at your strengths as a writer, where you feel most comfortable and are having the most fun on the page, and we say a hearty "Yes" to those things. Then we heighten things by using those strengths as the foundation for your writing practice, leaning hard on them to not only shore up weakness but to actually make you better at the things you don't like as much. In the end, we hope to help you find the freedom and fun of your own unique writing style and voice.
Manuscript Review.
Got a story, novella, or novel you've been toiling away on and just want some fresh eyes to give you some feedback? We're here for you. We'll take a read of that bad boy and offer you suggestions on where and how you can apply some of the basic ideas of improv to the work in order to find new depths, make bolder choices, or just have more fun.
Basic: Our basic manuscript review package costs $7 per page. Our turnaround time is 5 days for every 10 pages in your manuscript. So, if you send us a 25 page story, we'll get it back to you within 15 days. Once you get our feedback, you'll be able to set up a 30 minute phone conference to discuss any questions you might have. Advanced: Our advanced manuscript review package costs $10.50 per page and offers all the stuff from the basic package plus a second review, after you've gone through our feedback, asked any questions, and had a chance to revise the work. The turnaround time for the second review is the same as the first, 5 days for every 10 pages, and you'll be entitled to a second phone conference after you receive our second round of feedback. Please fill out the form over there on the right to get your review all set up! |

Mentorship Programs.
|
If you're ready to get deep into your writing practices and process, then we're ready to roll up our sleeves and help with the digging. When you enter into a mentorship program with us, you'll not only get feedback on specific pieces of writing, but you'll be given personalized writing exercises, reading suggestions, and the opportunity to regularly discuss your writing life with your mentor.
Your mentorship period will begin with a sit-down, face-to-face chat—maybe over a coffee, maybe not—where we'll discuss your writing, your reading, and what you hope to get out of your time with your mentor. After the chat, you'll receive a suggested reading list and some personalized exercises to get you started on identifying your strengths. Every three weeks during your mentorship, you'll send in up to 20 pages of writing and a check-in on what you've been up to in terms of reading and thinking about your writing life. Within five days, you'll receive a response from your mentor including feedback on the pages, additional readings, and any other instructional materials that might help you continue to develop your writing practice. At the end of your mentorship period, we'll give your a Wrap-Up document that lays out where we think you've been and where we think you should go next, as well as what we've discovered, together, about the tools you can use to get there. 12-Week Mentorship Program: $600 24-Week Mentorship Program: $1100 1-Year Mentorship Program: $2000 Due to the limited number of mentorships we can offer at any given time, there is an application process. Fill out the form to the left and we'll send you the application materials ASAP. We'll try to work with everyone who is interested, although there may be a wait. We're really very popular. |
Young Writer Support.
If you work with 12-18 year olds and would like someone to help get them writing more effectively, we can definitely help. By introducing the rules of improv, young writers can put the "fun" in function when it comes to writing essays and reports or find new enjoyment in creative writing.
Young Writer Seminars: We'll design a one-time presentation to fit your specific needs. We'll provide instructional materials, exercises, and a whole lot of general writing RAH-RAH (pom-pons not included). Young Writer Mentorships: Similar to our all-growed-up Mentorship Program, we can work one-on-one with a young writer. We'll work with you to develop a plan and provide all the personalized support we can muster: research tips and tricks, feedback on drafts, even plain old moral support—whatever you need. Use the form on the right to set up a consultation. |
